MIĆIN AT THE OPENING OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN WRESTLING FOR YOUNGER SENIORS: NOVI SAD IS THE EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORT WITH MORE THAN 200 SPORTS EVENTS
The Mayor of Novi Sad, Žarko Mićin, attended the opening of the U23 World Championship for Junior Seniors, which will be held from 20 to 27 October, with the participation of 1,100 competitors from 66 countries from all over the world.
"As a city that will take the title of European City of Sport in 2026, Novi Sad is proud to welcome this competition. Wrestling in Novi Sad has a tradition of more than a century. Since the founding of the Judas Maccabi Sports Society in 1920, through generations of champions who have won European, world, Balkan and Olympic medals, wrestling has become and remains a symbol of perseverance, discipline and respect. Our city is proud of the fact that it has hosted many major wrestling competitions, from the European Senior Championship in 2017, through 2019 when we hosted the European Championship for the age of 23 and last year when the European Championship for cadets and juniors was held in Novi Sad," said Micin, adding that there are more than 1,097 sports clubs and associations in Novi Sad and over 134,000 citizens who are actively involved in sports and more 200 sports events per year.
The attendees were also addressed by the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Serbia, Zoran Gajić. President of the Wrestling Federation of Serbia Damir Šabić and President of the World Wrestling Federation Nenad Lalovic. Damir Šabić thanked the Mayor of Novi Sad, Žarko Mićin, for providing full support as the President of the Organising Committee of the Championship in order to ensure that the world-class event went in the best possible order.

4TH MEMORIAL TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT "VLADIMIR ŠIŠKA" OPENED IN NOVI SAD
The Fourth Memorial Table Tennis Tournament "Vladimir Šiška" is being held today in the table tennis hall of SPENS, organized by the Sports Table Tennis Club "Panonija", with the support of the City of Novi Sad. The tournament was opened by a member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved.
"This tournament is not only a sports competition, it is a symbol of respect, gratitude and lasting memory of a great man and sports worker, who dedicated his life to table tennis, the development of clubs, young generations and sportsmanship. Today, he celebrates the talent, perseverance and togetherness that table tennis carries within itself. Novi Sad, led by Mayor Žarko Mićin, provides strong financial, organisational and infrastructural support to all sports, because we believe that sport empowers young people, connects the community and builds the future.

MORE THAN 1,800 CHILDREN ON THE TRACK OF THE SCHOOL-SPORTS COMPETITION IN ATHLETICS
Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved, opened the school-sports competition in athletics "From School Bench to Athletic Track", organized by the Athletic Club "Borac" from Klisa with the support of the City of Novi Sad.
Athletics is one of the fundamental sports that, along with swimming, plays a key role in the overall development of children. Such events are not only sporting events, but also an opportunity to motivate the youngest to engage in physical activity, develop discipline and build self-confidence. The city is constantly working to improve school sports and promote athletics, which has certainly contributed to winning the title of "European City of Sport 2026." This year, 18,750.00 dinars have been allocated from the budget for athletics as a branch of sports, and the City will continue to support in the coming period," said Tatjana Medved.
The competition was attended by children of preschool and school age from all parts of the city, with a large representation of children from Klisa, Slana Bara and Vidovdan settlement. The competition took place in disciplines from 100 to 800 meters, in different age categories. The winners won gold, silver and bronze medals, while the competitors up to seventh place were awarded diplomas.

At a press conference held at the House of the Armed Forces of Serbia, the details of the upcoming 33rd International Conference were presented. Novi Sad Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025. Year. "The Novi Sad Marathon is much more than a sports competition, it is an event that inspires, connects and promotes the best in our city. On Sunday, we expect over 1,100 participants, including over 120 competitors from 25 countries, which is a clear indicator that this marathon enjoys a great international reputation. Such events show that Novi Sad has the capacity, knowledge and enthusiasm to be a leader in the field of sports. Confirmation of this commitment came through the title of European City of Sport for 2026, which we have earned through consistent and comprehensive investments. In recent years, more than EUR 35 million of investments have been made in sports infrastructure, from halls, courts and bicycle paths to support for school, club and recreational sports. This year alone, the City has allocated over 900 million dinars for sports, and in 2025, the City has supported both the spring half marathon and now the autumn marathon with a total of 1,500,000 dinars. In this way, we show that we are a reliable partner to all sports organizations that contribute to the development of sports in Novi Sad and the affirmation of healthy lifestyles – said Medved and added that this year the City Administration for Culture enabled all marathon runners to visit the City Museum of Novi Sad free of charge.
Medved expressed special gratitude to the organizers, volunteers, public services and all those who contribute to the successful and safe implementation of the marathon.

The marathon is organized by the Sports Association "Novi Sad Marathon" with the support of the City of Novi Sad, and is included in the official calendar of the Athletic Federation of Serbia and the World Athletics Federation.
According to a member of the Organizing Committee, Dimitrije Dolga, the start of the main race is scheduled for 10 a.m. from Liberty Square.
Competitors will compete in several disciplines - the main race at 42 kilometers, as well as races at 25, 10 and 5 kilometers. For recreationists and citizens who want to participate in less demanding activities, walks will be organized, while the youngest will participate in special programs - from the "Race of Crawling Babies", through the race of elementary school children, to the traditional "Turtle Competition" at 4.2 meters - added Dolga.

TATJANA MEDVED AT THE OPENING OF THE 3RD CISM BALKAN MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIP IN VRDNIK
Member of the City Council for Sports and Youth of the City of Novi Sad, Tatjana Medved, attended today the opening ceremony of the 3rd CISM Balkan Mountain Running Championship, which will be held from 7 to 10 October in Vrdnik, on Fruška Gora, organised by the Delegation of the Republic of Serbia to the International Council for Military Sports (CISM) and with the support of the Municipality of Irig.
"It is a great pleasure for me to be a part of this important sporting event that connects athletes from all over the region. The organization of the championship at this level testifies to the commitment and seriousness of our institutions, but also to the exceptional potential that Serbia, and especially our region, has for the development of sports tourism and international cooperation. Novi Sad proudly bears the title of European City of Sport 2026 and strives to be a place of meeting, competition and inspiration for athletes of all profiles, and such events on Fruška Gora further strengthen our position on the sports map of Europe," said Tatjana Medved.
The championship brings together representatives of eight CISM member countries from the Balkan Peninsula, including: Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia. Competitors in the men's competition will compete in a 9-kilometer race, while female competitors will compete in a 6-kilometer race.
The opening ceremony was held in the "Sports Mine" in Vrdnik, and the program continues in the coming days through competitive activities, socializing and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

TATJANA MEDVED AT THE OPENING OF THE 21ST INTERNATIONAL KARATE TOURNAMENT "FRIENDSHIP CUP"
A member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved, opened the 21. International Karate Tournament "Friendship Cup" in the small hall of the Sports and Business Center "Vojvodina", organized by Karate Club "Mawashi".
She pointed out that this tournament is one of the most massive sports events held in Novi Sad, gathering about 1000 competitors from eight European countries, which once again confirmed the international importance of this sports event.
For more than two decades, the "Friendship Cup" tournament has been gathering karate players of different generations, encouraging the development of martial arts. It also plays an important role in encouraging young people to engage in physical activity. In addition to the competitive aspect, this event is of great importance in promoting culture, friendship and understanding among young people from different countries. It is through such events that Novi Sad has shown that it is a city that nurtures the spirit of sportsmanship and provides support to young talents, but also a city that is recognized on the sports map of Europe, which contributed to winning the flattering title of "European City of Sport 2026" – said Tatjana Medved.

As responsible in running the city, we recognize the importance of sports and youth manifestations, competitions and events such as this one, because through them we promote the values that we jointly nurture by making each other support in creating equality, an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance, appreciation, sportsmanship and fair play, and creating the best conditions for achieving success for the benefit of sports and youth. that we can all be proud of. With a vision under the motto 'Novi Sad plays for the future', we won the prestigious title of European City of Sport 2026. This title is a confirmation that sport in Novi Sad is not just a competitive result. Sport is one of the driving forces of social development. We have shown how important the cooperation of all institutions is, through which we provide conditions for the development of sports – by investing in infrastructure, but also in collectives and individuals. And I would especially like to highlight the cooperation of the sports and youth sectors in the preparation of the candidacy for this title. This is a strong indicator of the common vision and commitment of sports and youth to our city, because this is exactly where the key roles of networking of these sectors lie, and that is to jointly contribute to building a healthier and stronger community and elevate unity and solidarity – said Tatjana Medved.

MEETING OF DELEGATIONS OF THE CITIES OF NOVI SAD AND PODGORICA DEDICATED TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF SPORTS POLICIES AND COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF SPORTS
A working meeting of representatives of the City of Novi Sad and the City of Podgorica, aimed at improving institutional capacities in the field of sports, through the exchange of experiences, preparation for the development of future strategic documents and harmonization with modern European practices, was held at the City Hall.
The delegation of the City of Novi Sad was led by a member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, Tatjana Medved. On the other hand, on behalf of the City of Podgorica, the meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Nadja Ljiljanić, Secretary of the Secretariat for Sports Darko Nikčević and Independent Advisor for Sports Nela Tatar. At the meeting, good practices and plans of the City of Novi Sad in the field of sports development were presented, with special emphasis on the promotion of the concept of "sport for all", inclusion of vulnerable social groups and development of sports for persons with disabilities. Special attention is paid to the digitalization of processes in sport, as well as the management of sports infrastructure, the use of EU funds and other forms of international cooperation.
As part of the topic of digitization, the delegation of the Computer Centre of the Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Novi Sad, which in cooperation with the Sports and Youth Directorate of the City of Novi Sad developed an innovative software solution, presented itself to the attendees. In a short presentation, the functioning of the system in practice and its potential for application in other institutional environments is demonstrated. The talks were focused, among other things, on the process of candidacy of the City of Novi Sad for the title of European City of Sport, which further confirms the city's strategic commitment to the development of a modern and inclusive sports policy.
Tatjana Medved, a member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, said that Novi Sad, led by Mayor Žarko Mićini, is working intensively on the development of sports programmes that include all categories of the population - from children and young people, through recreationists, to people with disabilities.
"Digitalization in sport, as well as the use of international funds, are key tools in our further development. We very much appreciate the opportunity to share our experiences with colleagues from Podgorica, but also to hear their challenges and solutions, because only with a joint approach can we improve sports in the region – said Tatjana Medved.
This meeting is a significant step towards strengthening intercity and international cooperation in the field of sport and opens up opportunities for joint projects and initiatives in the future.

This year, it is held under the slogan 'Novi Sad is playing for the future', which is our city's candidacy for the title of European City of Sport. A special significance of this year's Fair is given by the fact that Novi Sad officially holds as many as three European titles - European Capital of Culture, European Youth Capital and European City of Sport. This is a confirmation that our city is recognized in Europe as a community that inspires and leads the development of all areas of social life by its example. The title of European City of Sport is the result of many years of work, enthusiasm and joint commitment of all of us who believe in the importance of sport and sports activism. In one place, we will bring together sports clubs, organisations, sports and youth federations and associations, with the aim of enabling everyone to get acquainted with various sports disciplines and youth programmes, discover new interests and develop volunteer and sports spirit through a diverse programme of youth organisations and rich sports content that will present everything Novi Sad has to offer in the field of sports and youth. KICKBOXING CHARITY SHOW FOR THE TITLE OF WORLD CHAMPION HELD
Tatjana Medved, a member of the City Council for Sports and Youth, opened the "Kickboxing Show Novi Sad 2025" - a match for the title of world champion in which our fellow citizen Aleksandra Krstić competes. The show was held in the small hall of the Serbian Orthodox Church "Vojvodina", organized by the Kickboxing Association of Novi Sad.
"The title of the "European City of Sport 2026" is a recognition that Novi Sad received for the exceptional sports policy it conducts, numerous sports infrastructure, promotion and availability of sports for all, as well as for the top sports results achieved. Today, under the spotlight, we celebrate not only the victory – but the will, passion, sacrifice and identity that Novi Sad builds through sport and synergy of work with sports organisations with which it implements numerous sports programmes, manifestations, events and activities throughout the year. Novi Sad has champions in many sports, as well as exceptional fighters in its rich kickboxing tradition. At the show today, we are watching fighters who represent the future of our martial arts scene and we strongly support our fellow citizen Aleksandra Krstić. The City is proud of all athletes and sports workers, because their efforts are becoming visible in the results and in the quality of the organization of sports events, so I thank them all for the commitment and energy they invest in sports – said Tatjana Medved and added that 7,250,000 dinars were allocated from the City budget this year for financing the programs of sports organizations in the field of kickboxing.
Seven matches were played at the show with 14 participants coming from Italy, Montenegro, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and all the money raised from the sale of tickets will be intended for the treatment of Eva Bajic, a former Serbian national team player in kickboxing.
